Fathomless Billows of Love

Fathomless Billows of Love
Fathomless means unable to be measured or understood, extremely deep.

Billow as a noun represents a large undulating mass of something, typically cloud, smoke or steam or a large sea wave.

Billows as a verb represents the filling with air and swelling outward (smoke, cloud or steam) moving or flowing outward with an undulating motion.

Love is an intense feeling of deep affection.

Fathomless Billows of Love painting was inspired by an old hymn, Wonderful Peace.

The refrain is:

Peace, peace, wonderful peace
Coming down from the Father above
Sweep over my spirit
Forever I pray
In fathomless billows of love.

The large canvas is highly textured and painted with acrylic paint in many layers.

As I played this hymn over and again, this painting became all about God's peace. Each part of the painting has an element of the hymn.

My interpretation of this painting is that God sends His love down to us and His love fills us with His peace in our spirit. His peace is forever, eternal like fathomless billows of love.

I just fell in love with that phrase, "Fathomless Billows of Love." How extraordinary!

Peace, peace, perfect peace! I pray this painting fills you you with peace in fathomless billows of love.

God's blessings,

Bloom in the Fragile Places

Life is fragile.
Health is fragile.
Emotions are fragile.
Love is fragile.
No matter how fragile you are -
Bloom!

God is most powerful in your
most fragile places.
Therefore, Bloom -
To show the strength of God
in the fragile spaces,

Bloom!
He isn't fragile at all.

When I wrote this poem, I had six more radiation treatments in a series of 33 treatments. I was feeling quite fragile physically and emotionally. I had been thinking about this painting for a while and the morning of July 10th, the poem came flooding into my mind. Then, I began to think about this painting. I had a title and from that, the texture and background design began to take shape. However, it took me a month to actually begin painting the flowers.

I always had a vision of Baby's Breath as the flowers in this painting. I even bought a large bunch of Baby's Breath and studied them for weeks. What drew me to this particular flower was that they always look like such fragile small blooms. The more I thought about Baby's Breath, however, I realized that although they appear to be fragile, in fact, they are quite sturdy. They are the flowers that stand in the background, unobtrusive and yet they are the frame of almost every flower arrangement, corsage, bouquet or boutonniere. They seem to always live much longer than the flowers that they frame. Baby's Breath flowers are much like the God from the poem, "God is most powerful in your most fragile places."

Yes, I got a diagnosis of cancer. It wasn't the end of the world and I am most thankful that it was caught so early. God has been my strength through it all. No matter what battles you might face, what scars you bear or mountains you must climb, remember when you are fragile, God is always framing you and He is your strength.

Jesus is the Bridegroom and His people are the Bride:
Symbolism of the
Baby's Breath flower. Most people know the baby's breath flower as the iconic symbol of long lasting love because it's commonly used to round out wedding bouquets and centerpieces. The tiny white flowers represent the purity of emotion that two people should have for each other during a wedding ceremony.

"For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you."  Isaiah 62:5
